Wanted – virtual address

Virtual Geographic Kludging Here’s the story. I had been hearing lots aboiut David Allen’s book “Getting things done”. I had heard it was available through audible.com and so wandered over there, credit card at the ready, to purchase a audio download of the book. Having a [tag]disability[/tag] that severely restricts my ability to handle physicalContinueContinue reading “Wanted – virtual address”

Pick a card, any two!

Our jewel code: my %blogosphere = &assessment; if($blogosphere {‘opportunity’} eq ‘fame’) { # do nothing } else {print “equality & fairnessn”; } “If opportunity means something like fame (or google-juice) in the blogosphere, then Dave and I would pick equality and fairness as our ‘two’.” That bit of perl code is a geeky way ofContinueContinue reading “Pick a card, any two!”

What’s Good? – want a second opinion?

As to this, quoted from a post of Kent’s : “As an aside, are there any bad blogs in Australia?” Define ‘Bad’… or ‘Good’ for that matter. This is what’s great about the blogosphere – you just ‘voice’ what you want and leave the ‘listeners’ to decide what’s good and bad FOR THEM – inContinueContinue reading “What’s Good? – want a second opinion?”

Horizontal HQ Sessions #2

Another rant between Mike and I, this time around the whole ‘inequality kerfuffle’, as Hugh termed it. It touches on the issues behind the [tag]gatekeepers[/tag] debate. Empowerment, inclusion, isolation, barriers – all these things which over 20 years in a wheelchair has given me good opportunity to be aquainted with. Great to see people likeContinueContinue reading “Horizontal HQ Sessions #2”

Equality on the blogosphere – no gaping voids.

Following up on a conversation with [tag]Hugh Macleod[/tag] over on gapingvoid. To me, equality in the blogosphere is not about every blogger being the same in quantity or measure of what they write. And it is not about status, whether measured by outcome, traffic, readership, quality or even those (I think fictitious) “attractive, sexually willingContinueContinue reading “Equality on the blogosphere – no gaping voids.”

Saving Doug’s hair – What’s Web2.0 about?

Over at Doug Jacquier’s blog, Doug is “doodling and sctratching his head” trying to answer some questions posed to him from Jody Mahoney at Compumentor about Web2.0. This is what I think – he asked for it! I see two main things happening that what is termed Web2.0 is shaping and in turn, is shapingContinueContinue reading “Saving Doug’s hair – What’s Web2.0 about?”

Bloody eye!

Is there a Doctor in the house? Can any doctors out there tell me if this is bad? Okay, it looks impressive but it doesn’t really hurt and as far as I can tell it’s called a Subconjunctival hemorrhage and should go away after a while. Sorry about quality of this image…taken with my webcam.

David N Wallace = Cary Grant

Over at My Heritage, Frank Arrigo might look like the Dalai Lama or Kevin Mitnick, while Robert Scoble looks like Johnny Depp – but neither measure up to my match, Cary Grant! Gee…even the description in the first paragraph at wikipedia matches! “He was perhaps the foremost exemplar of the debonair leading man, not onlyContinueContinue reading “David N Wallace = Cary Grant”

You can’t stop the signal.

I have been spending alot of time thinking about the notes on Linda Stone’s article at Supernova 2005. I’ve decided to put my thoughts up here rather than refine them any further. The article goes from the position of needing to “Filter the NOISE from the SIGNAL” at the start of the article to “FilterContinueContinue reading “You can’t stop the signal.”

post-multitasking adaptive behaviour

Continuous partial attention is a post-multitasking adaptive behaviour. This is a quote from Linda Stone’s address at the Supernova Conference earlier this year. YOU MUST read the whole article here. This is NOT an option. As you’d hear on a Dave Slusher EGC podcast intro. – “You should listen to this because this concerns you”.ContinueContinue reading “post-multitasking adaptive behaviour”

Fuel cell motorcycle – great design

Okay. So it might seem a bit ‘off-topic’ but the design of this is simply stunning. I especially like to see good design and asthetics applied to everyday things. We can take for granted things looking as they are because, well, they just always have looked that way. Like, where’s the asthetics in wheelchair design?ContinueContinue reading “Fuel cell motorcycle – great design”

Is sticky icky?

Doc Searles writes on Friday, December 9, 2005 …… There’s an ‘icky’ in ‘sticky’. Just a thought. …… He doesn’t eloborate on icky comment. But I sense a derogatory meaning. Perhaps he’s referring to ‘sticky’ having the connotation of being stuck, therefore not moving or ‘distributed’. Who knows. I wish he’d elaborate.

Youth Depression

A Mission Australia media release reports: A national survey of around 11,300 young people, aged 11-24 (94% between 11-19), has found that ‘suicide/self harm’, ‘physical/sexual abuse’ and ‘family conflict’ are issues of growing concern…… Two in five young participants were significantly concerned about suicide, and one in three about depression. 1 in 3! Astounding. MissionContinueContinue reading “Youth Depression”
