There's always going to be different options required for alternative input devices according to differing abilities.
So it's great to see the research and experimentation going on around this area, mostly driven I suspect by the need for different control of mobile technologies.

Thought: Feedback can be turned to alternative input if inverted.
Fabian Hemmert does research through and about design and creates projects like shape-changing-mobiles, weight-shifting-mobiles, breathing and pulsating ambient-life mobile device feedback.
The mobile concepts are designed to provide different feedback mechanisms that are physical.
I've often written about the importance of feedback when ...

CNN report on the future of brain controlled devices.
In part :
"Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) come in two varieties. Noninvasive techniques use electrodes placed on the scalp to measure electrical activity. Invasive procedures implant electrodes directly into the brain. In both cases, the devices interact with a computer to produce a wide ...

Combining pointing devices with keyboards is great for those with limited reach / movement and mouth stick users. ThinkPad keyboards are fantastic. To have em as a desktop kb would be great.

Meet Darrell
Earlier in the year I was contacted by Darrell. Darrell may not realise it, but he is a Lifekludger.
Darrell has a son. His son lives with a disability. His son's disability prevented him from using a mobile phone.

Nice compact, wi-fi keyboard, useful for limited reach. And no cords.
Non-multi touch pad is a positive in my opinion.
Would love to test the pad.

This video shows how you can combine Dasher, a clever text entry program, with RoboRealm, a clever machine vision program to write a sentence using a Red Ball and a WebCam.
You do this without touching the PC!
This could be used on a Wii, XBox or PS3 to control a browser.

A video demo of Dasher. A single finger interface that allows you to enter text without a keyboard. Dasher is free software, and it works in all languages, and on many platforms.

Interesting idea.
A first-thought is in the future this would be a way around the 'voice-command' dialing barrier that exists with most devices currently, where you're expected to push a button then talk.
A "puff-talk" action would work as a 'complete' hands free dialing alternative.
