Lifekludging Melbourne
January 9th, 2007 | by dnw |Been in Melbourne last few days on holiday. Nice city, reasonably easy to navigate, very scenic. As usual there’s a few caveots.
Forget tram travel. There’s bloody trams everywhere but only 1 accessible to any degree and the route it takes is virtually useless as it can be wheeled easy enough.
Better option is the free tourist bus that circles the city. It’s accessible, the drivers are friendly and obliging it runs every 10-15mins weekdays and is free.
Trains look good and the station is easily accessed.
Many of the shops and eateries in the smaller streets of the city aren’t accessible especially as they’re older buildings…but nothing new there. The soutbank is newer and hence access seems better. While at southbank I met Cameron Reilly, esteemed chief honcho and CEO of the Podcast Network, where our extraordinary everyday lives show is hosted….here’s a pic of the cam and I.

Street crossings here are fine, but only at corners. Again, trying to cross half way along a street to where you might want to go on the other side is ften met with access one side but not the other…nothing new there or perculiar to Melbourne either.
I’ll post some more later when I get some more photos off a friends camera and get some more time.
Meanwhile theres a few pics here.
