Had call from Lloyd and a visit from Nigel from Novitatech.
They’re evaluating this neat phone/gps device that comes from Europe. Mainly the alarm feature of the phone is why they were investigating it in the first instance. With the idea that maybe this device could see convergence of phone and personal alarm functions.
The interesting thing I find about this is how a convergent device can have a nice simple user interface. So much now days convergence comes to equal complexity. The user experience is often cluttered and complex and access made more difficult.
User experience needs to be brought back to the fore with the increasing complex devices that are emerging. Obviously convergence is a good thing as we can’t all manage a myriad of individual devices. But like everything, the devil is in the detail.
