What is a kludge?
October 24th, 2005 | by dnw |Well may you ask “What is a kludge?”
Different people have different definitions. Many times it’s very subjective. A bit like ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ or ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’.
I’ve outlined what I mean in my “About this blog” page, which you can get to as a tab in the header of the blog.
Wandering around looking for a definition of another term, I stumbled on a site called Googleism. Some of the definitions, or googleisms, it gives are quite funny.
Here’s some Googleisms about kludge.
Here’s some I like :
kludge is your answer today
kludge is the best way to go
kludge is a kludge
And some I don’t like :
kludge is a geekspeak term for a fundamentally inelegant
kludge is pronounced as klooj and is a poorly designed solution to a problem
And, by the way, I pronounce it kludge as in fudge, not kludge as in klooj.
But whatever you call them … I think they’re great!
